I have to admit, writing this post feels like a real achievement. I absolutely love Charlotte Tilbury and watching Charlotte’s brand soar through the ranks of the beauty world really has been amazing to watch. Many moons ago I interviewed her as part of a shoot I was working on. At the time she was merely a make up artist (to every A lister worth knowing) and I asked her what was next. She replied “Well, darling. I’ve always wanted to create my own products, I just think there is a gap for me thats worth exploring.” Well, that she did.
This post centres around the launch of her new Beautiful Skin Foundation, and I’ll walk you through the rest of my favourites from the brand at the same time. Whether you’re looking for full Hollywood glamour or quick fire products to give you a natural glow, Charlotte has something for you. As you’ll see from these photos I already own a lot of the brand, but I’ve done my best to pick out my favourites…
1. magic serum crystal elixir
My first experience with Charlotte Tilbury products was her eponymous Magic Cream. It really showed us all that this brand is about more than make up - they have excellent skincare offerings too. I use this a lot, it’s a beautiful product that glides onto the skin as a brilliant moisturiser and base for make up.
As it’s winter and my skin is a little rougher round the edges I thought I’d try their serum from the same range and boy does it work! Being water based it sinks into the skin in a second and holds make up incredibly well. It’s brilliant for tightening the skin over skin and great for helping breakouts fades with its careful formulation. I absolutely love it.
I use it most days, just a couple of drops on my fingertips and rub in gently to my face and neck. You can start putting on make up as soon as you’ve applied it - it really does absorb that quickly!
2. beautiful skin foundation
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or off Instagram) you’ll already know about Charlotte’s latest launch, her Beautiful Skin Foundation. I first saw it when Lisa Potter Dixon reviewed and knew I had to try it.
It looked perfect for me; a buildable foundation that covers blemishes, pigmentation and feel as light as a tinted moisturiser. Perfect, right? I used their online matching tool on the website (I am a 7 Cool) which worked remarkably well - friends have said the same when they gave it a go (you can find a link to the Shade Matcher here).
It went on so easily I couldn't believe the combination of the coverage and the lightness. It looks like my skin, but at its very best. I have quite bad pigmentation over my lip, red patches around my nose and quite a few pimples at the moment and it covered them all without feeling like I’d overdone it. The texture stayed dewy all day and didn’t cake - I just can’t rate it enough.
One thing it has worked for that I’ve never known another foundation do, is it’s brilliant for the darkness in the eye socket. I have tried to use concealers to do this and they're too heavy - whereas other foundations don’t stay put or go dusty around a while. This one doesn’t - it really works!
3. magic away concealer
The next thing I put on is concealer, and I am a fussy one with these. I get very bright red patches around my nose and my dark circles under my eyes are proud and true when they want to be. However, I hate looking overdone and often find you need to cake on concealer to probably cover stuff like this.
Until I used the Magic Away Concealer (the photos show quite how often I use it, apologies!). I really don’t understand how it manages to be so lightweight yet so effective. It blends incredibly well on top of, or next to, foundations and lasts all day long. It never goes dusty either.
Once again we should all hail their online shade matcher as this worked like a dream for me with this product, I use shade Medium 5.5 in these photos. I feel my most confident when wearing the combination of this concealer and foundation, just look at my skin after applying and beforehand - so good!
4. instant smokey eye palette
Next, eyes. My favourite thing is a smokey eye but I worry about overdoing it and often the colours required are hard to blend. This palette solves those problems.
There are twelve shades in it that work really well on their own, but they’re usefully grouped into 3 lots of 4 to help you learn how to build a smokey look. The colours blend effortlessly well together and you can go as light or as heavy as you like. Most of Charlotte products are what she calls “buildable” meaning you can layer them for a heavier look, or use sparingly for a more natural glow without compromising the effectiveness.
For these photos I used the “Power Eyes” trio, a lovely taupe base then built up with a subtle green. I’m loving sage tones at the moment, not a shade I thought I’d wear given my colouring but I love the contrast.
The rest of the palette is very handy, I also love the “Love Eyes” trio for more of an everyday look - plus the set comes with brown and black “liner” shades that I use under my eyes with a thin, narrow brush if I’m looking for more of an intense thing.
5. pillow talk push up lashes mascara
Much like concealers, I am very fussy with my mascaras. I have tricky lashes; they’re very long but go blonde half way through so half are invisible when bare faced. They’re also poker straight so needed curling, and then holding.
Somehow this one manages it, all day, without smudging at all (even though I am the worst and rub my eyes all the time). It comes off with make up remover as easily as it went on too - so no worries about marking your sheets…
6. pillow talk nude lipstick
I’m rarely one for lipstick as they never stay on my lips, but Charlotte Tilbury are a little bit different. The first lipstick I ever used regularly was hers, and the Pillow Talk Matte is somewhat of a revolution. The original was always good, but dare I say this one might be better?
Even though it’s matte is looks very natural on the skin, and it doesn’t go too dry like many others. Colour wise it’s incredibly versatile too - can appear pink, can appear nude. Basically it goes with everything. It’s one of very few lipsticks I’ll ever buy for friends as I know regardless of their colouring they can make it work for them.
So there we have it, my favourite bits from Charlotte Tilbury. I hope it was useful - I am so chuffed to have been asked to put this together. If you have any questions please do message me via my Instagram here. Thank you so much for supporting my content!
